2012 Stanley Cup Champions

Congratulations to the 2012 Stanley Cup Champions: The Los Angeles Kings.

If you're looking for any more praise for this franchise, please disregard this blog.

I'm selling most of my LA Kings sweaters as I don't want to ever be associated with this franchise ever again. I will never, ever forget the rage and shame I felt during my 8 years as a Kings fan. The fans, players, management, staff and owners have proven to me over and over again that they are not deserving of my money and loyalty and it's better off spent elsewhere. I will never forget waiting in line for over 2.5 hours for an Anze Kopitar autograph, only to have him snatch my program guide, sign it and literally throw it back in my face, all the while glancing behind him at the clock to see when he could leave. I will never forget speaking with ex-King Jack Johnson at a charity golf tournament and watch as he grabbed the free Disneyland passes that I was handing out (for those with the longest drive at my particular hole) all the while complaining that he didn't have 4 friends to share it with. I will never, EVER forget listening to an ex-Kings friend wail, "Do you think the Anaheim Ducks won the 2007 Stanley Cup because of skill, dedication or passion? No! They won it with sheer luck!"

I am a proud Anaheim Ducks fan. I have finally found a franchise I can really, truly be proud of. I'm not going to keep rubbing in the fact that it only took the Ducks 14 years to do what the Kings did in 45 - history speaks for itself.

I will, however, reiterate that it's not everyday that professional athletes such as Bobby Ryan, Ryan Getzlaf, Teemu Selanne, Toni Lydman, Francois Beauchemin and Saku Koivu (along with many, many other ex-Ducks - Brendan Mikkelson in particular) truly make you, the fan, feel special. I will never forget Mikkelson's encouraging words to me as a budding artist, or Bobby/Getzlaf/Koivu's appreciation of the Axis Powers Hetalia fanart that I had them sign after Anime Expo 2010. I will never forget meeting Scott Niedermayer at "Ducks on a Roll" 2009 and how he remained for a good half hour after the event, loitering with fans at the Tustin District. Being a part of the Anaheim Ducks NHL Premier Fan Road Crew in Helsinki and Stockholm for the 2011-2012 season was only icing on the cake - and meeting the players at Hartwall Areena was an experience in and of itself.

It is truly an honor to be an Anaheim Ducks fan.

Cosplay cruise? Yes, please!

BRB - in the preliminary stages of planning a group outing to Enseneda, Mexico on board the Carnival Inspiration, cosplay style!

I really hope this pans out, and at $179/person (all inclusive) - WHY THE HELL NOT?! LOL... I've already pre-selected my cosplays for this trip: Madoka (schoolgirl version) - Madoka Magica, Ranka (sundress version) - Macross Frontier and Ritsu (K-On!). Is it 2013 yet?

So... I'm off to Yaoi Con 2010 tomorrow! Should be loads of fun... haven't been back since 2006. XD What do I recall from 2006? Tons of screaming fan girls, hot, hot bishies and... collecting some "very interesting" Gundam Seed doujinshi.

Hopefully, 2010 doesn't let me down.

My schedule looks pretty damn full, starting with a tour around San Francisco tomorrow afternoon and lunch will hopefully include clam chowder of some sort. I'm also planning on checking out Yank Sing dim sum with a few friends, so we'll see if it lives up to its hype (my sister raves about that joint).

My actual convention schedule is pretty damn packed as well. Can't miss the Bishonen Auction and I do want to catch the AMVs and Cosplay Contest as well. I'm also scheduled to partake in the Bishonen Brunch at 10 a.m. on Sunday (pulling a solo act though), so hopefully, it's not a letdown (as Nicole says it is). We shall see!

I'm gonna miss you, Scotty...

Thank you for everything. Thank you for always being such a class act around us fans. Thank you for sticking around and chatting with us crazy, rabid Ducks fans even after the RA Sushi event was over. Thank you for entertaining all of us with our non-stop photo and autograph requests. Thank you for talking with each and every one of us and making us all realize that you're just like us, that you're not something to put on a pedestal. Thank you for everything.

You're a true captain, My Captain.

I'm glad I wasn't there to watch your press conference. I know for a fact that I probably would have just devolved into a blubbering mess of tears.

I'm glad I had the guts to tap you on the shoulder and ask for your photo (please know that I had literally just for a second thought that I was at anime convention and that you were cosplaying as my favorite character). Thank you again for your response to my "Can I get a picture of you with my friend's Bobby bobblehead?" and your "Sure! Good Bobby!" *pat pat* response as you whacked Bobby on the noggin. XD

Thank you for everything, Scott Niedermayer.

2007 was a year I'll never forget - and I'm sure you won't either. We owe so much to you. Hopefully, someday, Anaheim Ducks management will see fit to hang your number from the Honda Center's rafters..

Until then, I'll continue to cheer the boys on.

Anime Expo 2010: Getting Closer...

Ladies and gentlemen, the time is nearly upon us.

Anime Expo 2010.

This year, I'm debuting 3 NEW COSPLAYS, namely my original-design Duck@loid (the Anaheim Ducks' unofficial Voc@loid), C.C. (Code Geass) and Serah Farron (Final Fantasy XIII).

But it's my Duck@loid cosplay that I'm most looking forward to debuting (heck, AX isn't even the official debut - FanimeCon 2010 gets the honor)...

What started out as mere concept art (namely,  ) has now morphed into an actual cosplay that for once, I can truly say I'm proud of. I can't take the credit for making all of it - I did have some help in sewing the arm sleeves, tie and shirt. But that pleated skirt? What a pain that was to put together... thank goodness that's over with.

Et voila - the finished product! (debuted at FanimeCon 2010's Vocaloid gathering on Day 1).

One of the most important things that I'll need to remember for AX this year? Hair pins. Lots of 'em. Now that my hair is longer and the wig cap doesn't quite hold it in place so nicely, pins are pretty much imperative. XD Another thing? Comfortable shoes. I'll never forget the excruciating pain I had to endure at Otakon 2009 because the boots I was wearing for my Allelujah (Gundam 00) cosplay were brand-new and I'd yet to break them in. Yikes.... I'm also gonna have to remember to carry around WATER this year. Wigs are hot and I'm prone to overheating, which is never a good thing when you're running around a convention on very little sleep and fluids.

But at any rate, each passing day brings us one day closer to Anime Expo 2010 and I can't wait!

Fanime 2010

So Fanime 2010 in a nutshell?

A cross between epic win and fail. Somewhere between lies the truth... The main reason why Fanime failed so hard was due to my lack of sleep, which had me behind the 8-ball from the very beginning of the convention. To be perfectly honest, I'm used to sleeping between 8-9 hours at conventions and so the very idea of sleeping only 3 hours per day due to circumstances beyond anyone's control was unbearable. I've learned my lesson, though, and WILL NEVER DO THIS AGAIN.

At any rate, there were some amazing cosplays and some not-so-amazing outfits. There was epic fail in programming (c'mon, Opening Ceremonies in the middle of the hall at Stage Zero? Really? What kind of sound system was that?). But there was also FLOW, Exhibit Hall, Artist Alley, Vocaloid/Macross Frontier photoshoots, Durarara viewing, DeviantArt panels, Whose Line Is It Anime?, Fanime Comedy Hour and DRINKING. Oh, let's not forget the drinking... There was also meeting up with friends I haven't seen in months and meeting up with some new ones. So yeah, all in all, definitely a mixed bag.

Here's just a sampling of some of the photos I took:

K, back to hockey for me.
